GT I-Drive 6.0

Okay, so I haven't owned a bike since my last one was stolen back in high school. I've been longing to get a bike ever since and start mountain biking again. Recently a bunch of my friends, just about around the same time, have gotten mountain bikes. I thought I was long overdue so stopped into my local bike shop and picked this one up.

The GT I-Drive 6.0 is an entry level, full suspension, mountain bike. It has a good frame design with descent equipment on it, not the best, but good enough. Even though this is an entry level bike, it is exactly what I was looking for. I did not want to spend a lot of money if I do not get a great deal of use out of it.

Full Suspension Bike

This is probably my fifth or sixth mountain bike, though it is my first bike with any suspension. I had always wanted a full suspension bike. Before my last bike was lifted I was saving up to get a front suspension fork. At least I got to save that money. Of course I probably just shoved it into a street fighter machine instead.

This bike has a 4.6" travel in the rear which is a large amount of travel. Most bikes with rear suspension suffer from bob, the motion of bobbing up and down when pedaling. Bob robs the power you pump into the pedals, which is bad. The design of this bike is supposed to do a good job of reducing bob without having a lockout for the rear shock.

GT is out of business

Yes, GT went out of business. I believe someone bought them. They will most-likely use their name to put bikes out. I don't really care. GT's are good bikes and because of this I was able to pickup this bike for about $300 less than they normally cost. Unfortunately I missed the sale supergo was having (which was about 1/2 off), so I had to pay a little more. oh well I still got a pretty good deal.

Anyway, I look forward to breaking all my bones as I tumble down the mountain.

GT is not out of business.  They were bought by Pacific Cycle LLC back in 2001, ran and operated the division in the same manner as Schwinn did prior to their collapse (Schwinn owned GT until 2001, when Schwinn declared bankrupcy, taking GT down with it).  So GT has still been sold exclusively to independent bike distributors since being taken over by Pacific.  In 2007, a Canadian company, Dorel Inc, bought out Pacific Cycle, and is now running GT, as well as Cannondale and Mongoose, as part of an exclusive division that is separate from Pacific Cycle.
